Tshegofatso Tlhong, CFA

Tshegofatso is a Portfolio Manager at Kgori Capital, a Botswana-focused investment manager providing client-driven local and international investment solutions. She has ten years’ experience managing multi-asset investment portfolios on behalf of institutional, high-net worth and retail investors.

Tshegofatso holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours): Investment Management from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder. She has a passion for the capital markets and their use as a tool for wealth creation, as well as economic and entrepreneurial growth. She is an investment literacy advocate and teacher, as well as an entrepreneur and farmer.

As stated above, she is an investment professional with 10 years’ experience in financial analysis, and managing institutional and high net-worth client portfolios. She has a proven track record of delivering superior returns through the cycle due to unparalleled research and analysis capabilities. Other areas of expertise include macro and micro industry research, financial modelling, investment strategy, asset allocation and client relations.

Her bloated work history that includes being responsible for research, portfolio construction and asset allocation across numerous client portfolios that range from Global Balanced strategies to specialist Local single asset strategies. She is also conversant in the following areas: Originating and structuring unlisted debt instruments, Supervising an Investment Analyst and middle-office staff, Involved with overall Company oversight, policy development, strategy formulation and implementation as a member of the Kgori Capital Management Committee, and Managing Client relationships, contributing to public education as an investment commentator on various media platforms and events.

Before joining Kgori capital, Ms Tlhong was Founder and Managing Director at Ziigie from October 2016 to March 2019. Ziigie was an e-commerce passion project that created a route to market for small-scale artisan manufacturers and artists in Botswana. It provided invaluable learnings on leadership, culture, business eco-systems and strategy.

She also worked as a Portfolio Manager: Botswana and Africa Equities, Fleming Asset Management as of September 2015 to August 2016. This entity is a Botswana based Asset Management firm with assets under management (AUM) of P7bln and with offices in Canada and Australia during her tenure. Managed portfolio of c.P1.6bln, with an additional P0.7bln worth of tenders won during my tenure.

  • Formulated firm-wide strategy on Global Emerging Markets. Botswana and Africa equity research, stock selection and portfolio construction.
  • Trained and supervised a Trader and Property Analyst. Managed the liquidation, and subsequent re-establishment, of the Fleming Africa Fund. Conducted presentations to existing and potential clients covering portfolio reviews, investment themes and expectations.

She is a member of the Botswana Investment Professional’s Society Marketing Committee. The Committee successfully launched the organisation during my tenure. Tlhong holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Financial Management Sciences specialising in Investment Management from the University of Pretoria, South Africa as well as a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management Sciences specialising in Investment Management from the same University. Other certificates include: Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder, Mining Financial Modelling course and a course in Mandarin Level 1 & 2.
