PPC Botswana Endorses Government’s Infrastructure Development Plans
In a recent statement, Tuelo Botlhole, the Head of Business Unit at c, has expressed strong support for the government’s ambitious infrastructure development plans outlined in the Budget speech by Minister of Finance, Peggy Serame.
The Minister highlighted key priorities for the financial year 2024/2025, emphasizing the crucial role of infrastructure development and spatial planning in achieving the country’s long-term goals. Botlhole commended the government’s commitment to the National Spatial Plan (NSP) as a foundational element for the 12th National Development Plan (NDP 12).
He stated, Infrastructure development is vital for economic growth and job creation. The National Spatial Plan ensures that investments are strategically placed to benefit all Batswana, and we are fully supportive of these initiatives.
The government has allocated a substantial budget of P17.0 billion to address infrastructure gaps in various sectors, including water, transport, energy, information communications, and technology. Botlhole emphasized the significance of these investments. A well- developed infrastructure is key to attracting investment and enhancing the quality of life for the people.
PPC Botswana recognizes the positive impact these projects will have on the nation. Among the highlighted projects, the Village Electrification program stands out, aiming to connect more villages to the national grid. Botlhole acknowledged the progress made in the electrification efforts. The commitment to connecting villages to electricity aligns with our vision for sustainable development.
It not only improves living standards but also opens up opportunities for economic activities in rural areas.
Botlhole further praised the government’s plan to improve the standard of living for low-income households by providing electricity connections at reduced fees and distributing free ready-made boxes for households without wiring. This demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all citizens benefit from the country’s development ; he remarked.
The Head of Business Unit also highlighted the importance of land servicing in facilitating business activities, particularly in special economic zones and industrial areas. Efficient land servicing is a key enabler for the private sector. We are pleased to see the government prioritizing projects that will support business growth and development, Botlhole added.
As Botswana aims to transform its economy and achieve inclusive growth, the endorsement from PPC Botswana’s Head of Business Unit underscores the collaborative efforts needed between the public and private sectors to realize these goals.
